The experiences of each and every child is the foundation of HIGH FIVE®'s success as a quality standard. The thoughts, statements, experiences, and perspectives of recreation and sport professionals can be some of the strongest living proof for why HIGH FIVE works.
Our children and youth are often excluded from recreational activities due to their mental health challenges and we are thrilled to see training like HIGH FIVE® Healthy Minds for Healthy Children that will provide information that can hopefully enhance our children’s ability to participate once again in sports and recreation programs.
After taking HIGH FIVE® QUEST 2 training, I finally was able to come away with a tangible tool for evaluation of our programs. I can review not only the program itself but many of the other key areas including facility, staff, program planning and how the participants respond.
Through HIGH FIVE® Sport our staff have learned the importance of healthy child development and the understanding around the social, emotional and mental health needs of every child in a sport and recreation environment. It ensures that our front line leaders have knowledge and compassion when working with children aged 6 to 12yrs.
As a program coordinator I can trust that our staff have what it takes to treat children with dignity, and respect and present our material in a way that is beneficial to the child’s well being. Children walk away from a program with the knowledge to keep them safe and, thanks to HIGH FIVE Sport, an experience that nurtures their every need.
The HIGH FIVE® train the trainer course empowered me to be an ambassador for the HIGH FIVE philosophy with in the Boys and Girls Club of Kingston.
When it was introduced in our municipality we could see the results through our parent survey results, the satisfaction surveys. The kinds of things they’re saying are exactly what we want to hear. My child feels valued. My child wants to go there. They’re having a wonderful time. Yes, they learn something and that’s part of it, but more important is how they’re learning it. Because it’s how they’re treated, how they feel, how they’re valued in a program that actually allows them to learn better, accomplish more and feel good about themselves.
HIGH FIVE® SPORT provides coaches with a solid understanding of social and cognitive development for their athletes. This program is a good compliment to the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) by providing a positive and safe sport experience to ensure children are active for life.
Implementing HIGH FIVE training into our curriculum has been an extremely valuable experience. HIGH FIVE has been instrumental in providing a comprehensive framework on the importance of quality assurance in children’s sport and recreation programs and gives our students a valuable tool they can use to influence healthy child development. I have seen first-hand the positive impact that HIGH FIVE training has had on our students. They earn a certification that is highly respected in the field and the opportunity to make a difference in their communities.
Rugby Canada is committed to promoting the growth and development of junior and age grade rugby players across Canada in a manner which not only develops physical literacy but also emotional, social and cognitive skills. Rugby Canada is therefore proud to endorse the HIGH FIVE® standard by becoming an Umbrella Organization and is excited to work with its provincial unions to develop coaches with a high level of knowledge and expertise in child development.
When we started HIGH FIVE® training in 2002, I normally had three major incidences a week involving children in our programs. Last summer I only had two issues all season. This is a huge decrease and I now use that time to be proactive in my approaches. HIGH FIVE provides not only the tools to help my staff problem-solve, it identifies the gaps where problems could occur.
The HIGH FIVE® PHCD module and QUEST 2 Assessments contribute greatly to the success of the ARC/After-School Recreation Care programs. The training supports the outcomes of our curriculum which focuses on resiliency and the Principles of healthy child development helps guide our staff in their valued role as caring adults. All of the ARC programs are evaluated with the QUEST 2 Assessment which has contributed to the success and integrity of ARC. We are proud to be using HIGH FIVE in our programs!
